Who we are
This policy explains how Lifeline Group collects, uses and protects personal information. It covers all our services: Pinewood Care Home, Lifeline Community Care and Lifeline Training.
It applies to anyone we hold information about, including residents and people we support, their families and representatives, training delegates and the organisations that book them, job applicants, and visitors to this website.
We are based at de Carteret House, 7 Castle Street, St Helier, Jersey JE2 3BT. Lifeline Group is the trading name of Lifeline Care Group (Jersey) Ltd, which is the data controller for the information we hold. We are registered with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (registration number 101803).
Our data protection lead is Elizabeth De la Haye, Managing Director, who you can contact at info@lifeline.je.

Some of this is special category information under Jersey law, which needs extra protection. For the people we care for, this includes information about physical and mental health. It may also include religion, ethnic origin or other details that matter to how someone wants to be cared for. Criminal record checks for staff are also special category information in Jersey.
If you choose not to share information we need to care for you safely, we may not be able to provide the service. We will always explain why we're asking.
Where it comes from
Most of what we hold comes from you, or from your family or representatives, for example during an initial assessment, a course booking or a job application.
We may also receive information from your GP, hospital or community health team, social workers, Health and Care Jersey, your employer if they book training for you, and referees if you apply to work with us. When we receive information about you from someone else, we'll let you know.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- plan, provide and review care and support that fits your needs and wishes
- share relevant information with the professionals involved in your care
- keep you, our staff and others safe, including meeting our safeguarding duties
- keep you, your family and your representatives informed
- run training courses, record results and issue certificates
- reply to enquiries and handle any concerns or complaints
- recruit and employ staff
- invoice for care and training, and manage payments
- ask for feedback and check the quality of our services
- meet our legal and regulatory duties, including to the Jersey Care Commission
- improve this website, if you've agreed to analytics cookies
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for automated decisions about you.
Our lawful basis
We only use your information where the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 allows it. Depending on the purpose, we rely on one or more of these grounds:
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Providing care, support or training you've arranged with us | To carry out our contract with you, or take steps you've asked for before one |
| Meeting regulatory, employment and safeguarding duties | To comply with our legal obligations |
| Acting in an emergency | To protect someone's vital interests |
| Running and improving our services, handling enquiries and keeping proper records | Our legitimate interests, balanced against your rights |
| Analytics cookies, photographs and optional updates | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
For health and other special category information, Jersey law sets extra conditions. We rely mainly on the condition for providing health or social care, carried out by people bound by a duty of confidentiality. Where needed, we also rely on your explicit consent, protecting vital interests, or meeting employment and legal obligations.
Who we share it with
Only staff who need your information to do their job can see it. We share it outside Lifeline only when it's needed, and only as much as is needed. Where it's appropriate, we'll ask you first.
We may share information with:
- your GP, hospital teams, pharmacists and other health and social care professionals involved in your care
- Health and Care Jersey and other Government of Jersey services, for example where they fund or arrange your care
- the Jersey Care Commission, which regulates Pinewood and Community Care
- training awarding bodies, so they can issue certificates
- the employer who booked your training, for attendance and results
- companies that provide services to us, such as IT, care record systems, email and payroll, under contracts that require them to protect your information
- our professional advisers and insurers
Sometimes we must share information without consent. This includes when someone is at risk of harm, for safeguarding, when the law requires it, or to help prevent or detect crime. Where it's safe to do so, we'll tell you we've shared it and why.
Information leaving Jersey
Some of our service providers may store information in the UK, the European Economic Area or elsewhere. Jersey law treats the UK and EEA as giving adequate protection. If information goes anywhere else, we use safeguards such as contract terms approved for that purpose.
How long we keep it
We keep information only for as long as we need it, or as long as the law or our regulators require. Care, staff and financial records are kept for the periods set by Jersey law and the Jersey Care Commission. After that, paper records are shredded and electronic records are permanently deleted.
If you'd like to know how long we keep a particular record, please get in touch.
Keeping it safe
Electronic records are protected by passwords and access controls, and paper records are kept locked away. All our staff are trained in data protection and confidentiality.
If something goes wrong, we record it and act quickly. Where a breach is likely to put you at risk, we report it to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner within 72 hours, and we'll tell you without delay.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018, you have the right to:
- know how we use your information, which is what this policy is for
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected
- ask us to erase your information
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it
- receive your information in a format you can take to another provider
- not be subject to decisions made only by automated means
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it
Some rights have limits. For example, we may need to keep care records for a set time even if you ask us to delete them. If that's the case, we'll explain why.
To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You can ask in writing, by email or in person, and someone can ask on your behalf with your permission or the right legal authority. There's normally no charge. We'll reply within four weeks of confirming who you are. If a request is complex, we may need up to a further eight weeks, and we'll tell you if so.
